Kinder Newsletter for June 1

Please return all Book Bags by Monday.

Our Kindergarten last day of school play/celebration will be on Thursday, beginning at 10:00 am in the new parish hall, with breakfast to follow. Siblings may attend if their teacher excuses them from class.

Your child needs wear their mass uniform on Thursday. We will not be having a cap and gown ceremony.

“Fly Up” will take place on Monday. This is where the kindergarteners will visit the 1st grade classroom.

HOMEWORK: A summer packet will be sent home with your child. Please return it to the first grade teacher for homework credit at the beginning of the school year.

READING: Keep practicing with your child each night. I am so proud of the progress the children have made this year. Congratulations to Michael Mezta and Giuliana Goodwin for completing all 15 lists!

Religion We continue to work on the journal I created for the students to learn our St. Mary Student Learning Expectations (SLE).

Reading This week we read Animals in the Ocean, Manatees, and Rainbow Fish.

 Math We completed Chapter 10 about calendars and time. We also completed Garfield Math.

Congratulations to Ellie Klem and Giuliana Goodwin, they made it to Garfield Math Level 55 and 54 respectively!

Science We learned about sea life, which included a variety of sharks, manatees and other animals.

Our Kindergarten last day of school play/celebration will be on Thursday, June 7th beginning at 10:00 am in the new parish hall, with breakfast to follow. Fruit, flatware, tablecloths, and clean up help is still needed for our breakfast. Please let Gina Goodwin know if you are willing to help. Thank you in advance! Siblings may attend if their teacher excuses them from class.

Kinder Newsletter for April 26

Please keep our 2nd graders in your prayers as they make their First Holy Communion this Saturday.

Our Peter Rabbit play begins at 10:00 am on Thursday, June 7th. If you are late, you will miss it. Students still need to arrive at 8:00 am, so they can get ready. We will enjoy a breakfast together afterwards.

Your child will receive a Kindergarten diploma, but there is no cap and gown graduation ceremony.

Please practice the reading and sight word list your child has been given. Congratulations to Michael for completing all 15 lists!

SUPERSTAR: Isabelle – Bring in your poster and sharing each day!

Religion We have completed our We Believe religion series. We began learning about St. Mary’s Student Learning Expectations (SLEs). During the month of May we will learn about Mary and join our school families each Friday for Rosary. You are welcome to join us.

Reading This week we read Seasons of an Apple Tree, Wartville Wizard, and We Care for the Earth.

Math We began Chapter 6 on money. Please practice identifying and adding money at home.

Science/Social Studies
This week we discussed Earth Day, and completed our unit on plant life. Next week we will learn about the life cycle of a butterfly and frog (metamorphosis).

Kinder Newsletter for April 20

Our Peter Rabbit Play will be June 7th at 10:00. Kindergarten students will be released to you after the play and breakfast. There is no school for Kindergarten on Friday, June 8th.

Next week is School Spirit Week.
Each day students will have a different theme.
Monday: Kindergarten wears RED
Tuesday: Crazy Hair Day
Wednesday: Silly Hat Day after Mass
Thursday: Disney Day
Friday: Pajama Day

Please practice the reading/sight word list your child has been given. Please remember to send back your child’s book bag each Friday to receive a new one each Monday.

SUPERSTAR: Harper – Bring in your poster and sharing each day!

Religion We talked about how Jesus cares for us and how we should treat others. We also discussed this Sunday’s Gospel.

Reading This week, we read Sunflowers, Johnny Appleseed, Apples, and Little Apple Tree. Math We finished Chapter 6, and began Chapter 9 about money. We’ve also been working on Garfield math and number rolls.

Science/Social Studies
We continued our unit on plant life. We learned about the life cycle of an apple tree and what plants need to grow – soil, water, air and sunlight. We planted bean, tomato, and wild flower seeds, which have all started to sprout. We also tasted 3 different kinds of apples to decide which one we liked the best.

We started practicing for our Peter Rabbit play, which will take place on June 7th at 10:00 am. A celebration breakfast will follow. Kindergarten students will be released to you after the play and breakfast. There is NO school for Kindergarten on Friday, June 8th.

Reading This week we read Life Cycle of a Plant, Oh Say Can You Seed, Up, Down and Around, and From Seed to Sunflower.

Math We are working on Chapter 6 about tally marks, graphing and fractions. We will begin Chapter 9 discussing money next.

Science/Social Studies
We are learning about the life cycle of plants, and how fruits and vegetables grow.

Kinder Newsletter for 3/23

The Kindergarten class does NOT have a graduation ceremony. Instead we put on a Peter Rabbit Play and enjoy a breakfast together afterwards. This will be held on Thursday, June 7th, at 10:00 am. Kindergarten students will be released to you after the play. June 7th is Kindergarten’s last day of school.

SUPERSTAR No Super Star next week due to the short week. Gianna will be superstar when we return from Easter break.

 Religion We are discussing the Lenten season. We joined our school families for Stations of the Cross. Next week we will be talking about Holy Week and Easter. We discussed Palm Sunday, which is this Sunday.

 Reading This week we read Farm Animals, A Day on the Farm, The Big Red Barn and Rumble in the Jungle. 

Math We completed Chapter 12 and reviewing numbers to 100. We will begin Chapter 6 next week.

Science/Social Studies

We are finishing our unit on animals. We will begin our unit on plant life, and metamorphosis in April.

We discussed the boy, girl and baby names of animals, such as Stallion, Mare, Foal and Bull, Cow, Calf etc.
